Why get married in Tuscany?

But why should you even consider getting married in Tuscany. Tuscany offers stunning landscapes. When thinking of Tuscany, rolling hills, cypress hills and vineyards immediately pop into my head. Especially the center of Tuscany offers untouched nature and ancient villages with stone built houses. The charming towns and cities are filled with beautiful architecture.
You'll find a huge variety of delicious food and some of the best vineyards worldwide. The tuscan cuisine is known for being simple but with quality ingredients. Apart from the typical italian food such as pasta you'll find meats and selected vines such as Chianti.

Tuscany has all year round mild climate and very few rainy days. Therefor it is pretty much ideal for getting married. There is almost 100% guarantee that you'll have sun when being in Tuscany.

How to get to Tuscany?

Tuscany is easily accessible from several airports, and depending on where you're coming from, you have a few options. If you're looking to get there directly, the Pisa International or the Florence Airport are your best bets. Both are located within the region of Tuscany, so once you land, you can grab a rental car and be on your way in no time.

If you're flying in from further afield, Rome Leonardo da Vinci or the Bologna Airport are two other great options. These larger airports are more frequented, making them a good choice if you're looking for more flight options or if you're planning on making a pit stop in one of these cities before heading to Tuscany.

Another option to get to Tuscany is by car. Estimating you are coming from Germany, Switzerland, Austria or France that's also a convenient option. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your wedding in Tuscany. Firstly, if you plan to stay for a longer period, having your own car will come in handy and save you the hassle of renting one. Secondly, on past weddings I've seen some guests come in camper vans and stay on the wedding venue property. This is awesome because it allows them to stay close to the celebration.

BEST TIME TO GET MARRIED IN TUSCANY

First, you should ask yourself when is a good time to get married. When choosing Tuscany as your wedding destination, you should allow minimum one year upfront to start with the planning. You'll need some time to find a wedding venue and to contact preferred vendors (e.g. wedding planner or wedding photographer).

Additionally you should keep in mind, that all your guests should have time at your wedding date. Therefor don't choose busy seasons such as easter or between Christmas and New Year's Eve, since most will be with family at these dates.

The best time to get married in Tuscany is between May and October, avoiding the peak tourist season in June to mid-September. However, June and July have longer days, which gives more time for activities during your wedding day.

The spring and summer months are popular for outdoor weddings, as the weather is generally mild and sunny. However, Tuscany is also beautiful in the fall and winter, with the region's rolling hills and vineyards taking on a magical quality under a blanket of snow. So basically you can get married all year round in Tuscany and you won't be disappointed. If I would have to choose a certain time of the year to get married, it would be late summer, speaking September or early October. The weather is still usually very mild and you'll get for sure some sun.

WHERE TO GET MARRIED?

One of the first things you'll need to decide is where in Tuscany you want to get married. The province is home to many beautiful cities and towns, each with its own unique character and appeal. Some popular choices include the capital city of Florence, the hilltown of Siena, and the coastal town of Pisa.

Val d'Orcia is a stunning valley located in the heart of Tuscany, known for its picturesque hills with cypress avenues and breathtaking sunsets. It's the perfect location for couples looking for a romantic and intimate wedding setting. The valley has also been the setting for iconic scenes in the movie such as "The Gladiator," adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to your special day. You can exchange your vows in charming old towns such as Pienza and explore its city center, all the little streets, and the beautiful balcony overlooking the hills.

Florence, also known as the eternal city, is a popular choice for couples looking for a wedding setting with a rich history and culture. This city is a treasure trove of beautiful architecture, art, and history, making it an ideal backdrop for your special day.

Siena, a smaller city than Florence, is a great option for couples looking to enjoy a historical city without the crowds. It is closely located to the evenly beautiful Arezzo and offers castles, avenues, and charming coffee shops give Siena a unique atmosphere.

FIND THE Best Wedding VENUE for you

If you're planning a dreamy Tuscan wedding, choosing the perfect venue is key. But, with so many beautiful options available, it can be overwhelming to know where to start.
First off, think about whether you want all your guests to stay in the same place, or if you're okay with them staying nearby. If you need extra accommodation, check if there are any options nearby that your guests can book.

If you're planning a church or town hall wedding, make sure to choose a venue that's easily accessible from these locations. You don't want your guests to get lost or be late for the festivities!

Another important thing to consider is how easy it is to reach the venue. You don't want to pick a location that's difficult for your guests to get to, especially if you're planning a destination wedding.

And, while we all hope for sunny skies on our big day, it's important to plan for the possibility of rain. Make sure your venue has indoor options available for the reception, just in case. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony, be sure to ask if they have a backup plan in case of rain.

Once you have decided on the above points you can start searching for your wedding venue. Tuscany is home to a wide range of wedding venues, including grand castles, rustic farmhouses, and elegant villas. Some venues offer all-inclusive packages that include everything from the ceremony and reception to the catering and accommodations. Others offer a more DIY approach, allowing you to bring in your own vendors and customize your wedding to your exact specifications.

Do you need a wedding planner?

There is no wrong or right to this question. I would say it depends on different factors. Obviously you'll safe a lot of time and stress if you hire a professional wedding planner, who is specialized for Tuscany. I'd recommend getting a wedding planner when you plan for a bigger wedding and if you don't have a lot of knowledge of the area. A planner can help you to find the ideal venue within days and you don't have to do the research on your own. The planner also knows the right vendors such as catering, florist, decoration or wedding photographer.

If you are planning a smaller wedding or even an elopement, I would say you don't necessarily need a wedding planner. Also when you enjoy planning and managing bigger projects you most likely don't need a planner. In case you are looking for a german and english speaking wedding planner I can recommend you: Katja from "Herzgold Hochzeiten" Especially when it comes to organization and paperwork a wedding planner who knows the legal requirements can make your life much easier.

PAPERWORK FOR GETTING MARRIED IN TUSCANY

Most couples opt for a symbolic ceremony for their Tuscany wedding, doing all their paperwork in their home country before leaving to Italy. However, if you wish to plan a legal wedding ceremony in Italy, you can find all necessary details and documents on your embassy's website (e.g. United States Embassy, German Embassy, UK Embassy ).

Creating a timeline for your wedding reception is essential to ensure that everything runs smoothly, and your guests have a wonderful time. From the first dance to the last goodbye, every moment counts.

10:00 AM - Getting Ready begins
11:00 AM - Hair and makeup for bride and bridesmaids
12:30 AM - Photographer arrives
1:00 PM - Groom and groomsmen begin getting ready
3:00 PM - Ceremony begins (guests should arrive 30 minutes prior)
4:00 PM - Ceremony ends, cocktail hour begins

Please note that this is just a sample and the timing of your wedding will depend on the preferences of the couple, the size of the wedding, and the location.

Extra Tips to make your wedding picture perfect

Here are some more tips I've experienced over the years of being a wedding photographer.

1. Plan Ahead

The key to a successful wedding reception timeline is to plan everything ahead of time. Start by discussing your expectations and desires with your wedding planner or coordinator. They can help you create a detailed timeline that includes all the necessary events and activities, such as the cocktail hour, dinner, speeches, and dancing.

2. Timing is Everything

Timing is critical when it comes to your wedding reception. Be sure to leave plenty of time for each event to prevent rushing and allow your guests to enjoy every moment. For instance, allocate ample time for dinner so that your guests have time to eat and socialize comfortably. Similarly, allow enough time for the speeches and dances, so that you can enjoy the moment and avoid any unnecessary stress.

3. Serve Refreshments Throughout the Evening

Make sure to keep your guests refreshed throughout the evening by providing plenty of drinks and snacks. Consider setting up a self-serve bar with various refreshments, including non-alcoholic options for those who do not drink. Definitely think about offering late-night snacks such as pizza or finger foods to keep your guests going until the end of the night.

How to find the right WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Having a professional photographer to capture your wedding in Tuscany is important to remember the beautiful moments. An experienced wedding photographer will be able to capture the essence of your wedding and create beautiful, timeless images that you will treasure for a lifetime. When looking for a Tuscany wedding photographer, be sure to look at their portfolio and make sure their style aligns with your vision. You can also ask for references from past clients to get an idea of their level of service and professionalism. It's also important to have a good rapport with your photographer, so make sure to schedule a meeting or call to get to know them before your wedding day.
